In September 2008 Airbus opened its Airbus Tianjin Delivery Centre, a joint venture with AVIC and the Tianjin Free Trade Zone, which would undertake final assembly of A320 family aircraft. The plant has been a great success and the 100th aircraft was assembled in August 2012 followed by the 200th in December 2014.
China Eastern is China’s largest operator of Airbus equipment with over 200 A320 family aircraft in its fleet. In May 2013 China Eastern received B-9921 – the first A320 in China equipped with fuel saving sharklets, which was assembled on the Tianjin line. As of December 2014 China Eastern operated 152 A320s with 78 further CEOs on order as well as 70 extra NEOs.
