MY TAA / AUSTRALIAN AIRLINES FLEET (1:400 SCALE)
Updated: July 2024
Trans Australian was the government owned domestic airline of Australia up until it was swallowed by Qantas in September 1992, by which time it had been renamed as Australian Airlines. Despite being the government airline TAA tended to be the more enterprising of the airlines that made up the 'Two Airline Policy' of the regulated era. Certainly when it came to equipment and dealing with the unions it was a lot more progressive than Ansett.
THE COLLECTION:
In 400 scale there have been 28 TAA models and 4 for Australian Airlines. I own 22 of these 32 models. Several are really hard to find and I've still to find a 'Camel Hump' DC-9 for example although there's only a Net Models version available. Unlike with Ansett there is little diversity of manufacturer for TAA / Australian with almost all the models coming from Aeroclassics, aside from a few JC Wings Electras and a DC-3.
The earliest part of the fleet covers TAA from the 1950s to the early 60s:
The second portion includes the first T-Jets:
Part 3 takes TAA into the 1970s with the T tail logo:
Part 4 covers the 'Camel Hump' scheme and the change to Australian Airlines:
