It had been thought that Sovereign were a Gibraltar based group that wanted to only make models of aircraft that had visited London Heathrow. Their old website was http://www.sovereign-models.com/ but that is long gone now. They first appeared in 2003 and used Gemini Jets moulds to make a Pakistani 747-300, Gulf Air L-1011 Tristar and Ghanaian DC-10. As the models are made by Gemini out of the box they are indistinguishable from standard Gemini Jets models. The boxes however were colourful enough.
It doesn't seem that any models were made during 2004 but in 2005 Sovereign gained access to the moulds used by Seattle Model Aircraft (who ended production in 2004). This enabled the release of a pair of 737-100s and 12 Douglas DC-9s of various marks. The moulds and finish match that of SMA. This rebirth of Sovereign is interesting as while doing this research it turns out that Sovereign was just a name used by Bob Cass and Andrew Klein to release some models and not a separate group at all.
The reappearance of Sovereign in 2005 allowed the use of the SMA moulds while the legal action between SMA and Aeroclassics was resolved. This explains why one SAS DC-9 was produced as a 400ScaleHangar exclusive limited model, one of the few times that a 400ScaleHangar Hangar Club Model was not made using the Aeroclassics name. Below is a list of all the models made for Sovereign:
The last two models produced for Sovereign were a pair of Olympic Airways widebodies using the Gemini Jets 747-200 and A340-300 moulds. An Air New Zealand Boeing 747-200 was announced but both Big Bird and Blue Box made similar examples that year and it never eventuated. Interestingly Gemini Jets did release an Air New Zealand 747-200 in 2006 and it is possible this was the delayed Sovereign model. Either way nothing more was ever heard from Sovereign Models and production for them ceased after only 19 models were made.
