Fantasy Wings Hong Kong Air Traffic Control Tower Set (FWDP-SC-4048)
Updated: July 2022
This impressive set from FantasyWings combines with their Outer Bay set to make an impressive diorama display featuring the Hong Kong International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower, its attached Administration building and the 5 adjacent Type C gates. As an added bonus the buildings can be lit up.
I've previously taken a look at the companion set to this one featuring the Outer Bay gates so check out that review:
This set features two apron panels, two airport buses, plus the tower and administration block. It measures 42cm long by 30cm wide.
The set comes excellently packaged in a cardboard inner box with outer sleeve. The set is fully protected inside the cardboard box in plastic packaging.
The model represents the ATC Tower as it was originally built with the 7 storey administration building attached to the 12 storey tower by a walkway. Although this area has largely stayed as it was the gate space directly around the tower has now changed. Gates V134 and V135 have now been built on top of as can be seen in the image below:
The buildings are very well constructed and quite reassuringly chunky in the hand. There is a lot of translucent plastic used to help spread the lights when they are turned on. Detailing of the walkways and radars is very nice too.
The set is powered by a pair of AA batteries slotted into the base of the admin building. Underneath is also where the on/off switch is located:
Both Sets Combined
This is an impressive set, which works well with the Outer bay set to make a fabulous little diorama. The detailing on both sets is good but especially on the ATC one it comes at a price. That is the major drawback of this portion of the set as it retails for around $140. Nonetheless, if you don't have the space for a full model airport and want something Asian this will be right up your alley.
