The Chinese market for 400 scale is showing an impressive level of diversity in 2024 with a variety of sources utilising Panda Models and JC Wings as OEMs to make their own models. Mostly their products can be found on Taobao stores in China but that doesn't mean they are not of the highest quality and for a Chinese collector like myself, quite sought after. There have been quite a few new brands in China in the past year or two and several have featured at the site here as I try to keep abreast of what is going on in 400 scale. Examples include:
Some of these brands have shown a lot of promise (mostly Yu and C Models so far) while others have vanished after only a single release. This trend of small boutique brands selling mostly Chinese airliner models has continued in 2024 and just recently there have been two new entrants onto the scene. Undefined Collectibles I was informed of this new brand by a friend and since then I've made contact with the owner, who incidentally is a Yesterday's Airlines reader. The brand has its own Taobao store, which can be found here: The aim of the new brand is to produce some more classic and regional Chinese based models and they have partnered with both JC Wings and Panda Models already. The first two products are an Air China A319 and a China Southern ATR-72. The A319 will be available for shipping soon. Both are quite mainstream Chinese releases but the owner tells me he's keen to make more unusual Chinese airliners moving forward and is weighing up whether to use Panda for 737 Classics or JC Wings for regional types. One factor may be the timescales in dealing with JC Wings as the CZ ATR above has already been delayed until May. There has been a CZ ATR made previously by Gemini Jets in 2014. I own that one but it isn't easy to find nowadays: A further pair of models has also been announced both coming from JC factory. One is a Big Bird moulded Air China 747-200 (and there may well be some associated JC Wings versions as well). The most interesting model in my opinion is the China Xinjiang ATR-72, which has never been made before in 400 scale. That should be an excellent release. Blue Wings This brand is harder to pindown and I've come across their releases through friends or by accident on Taobao. They may be connected with YY Wings but like YY their model boxes are completely unbranded. The only reason I have a name for the brand are the Taobao listings. The releases so far are limited to a trio of Air China 737-700s using the Panda Models moulds. Two, registered B-2612 and B-2613, are in the standard scheme. I have acquired one of them. The codckpit print is a little low but otherwise it is an upgrade on the older Aeroclassics / Panda version I had: Blue Wings third release is also an Air China 73G but this one wears a more exciting livery. It is B-5211 wearing the Pink Peony scheme. This aircraft has had a 400 scale release before from Phoenix but that was wearing the Orange Peony. It seems B-5211 was repainted into a different shade some time ago and is still operating in it. I have this model on the way to me at the moment.
