Dowse National Airport - 1:400 Scale Model Diorama
Dowse National is an example of the sort of jet-age terminals being built across the United States in the 1960s. The layout has two piers joined by a central terminal area.
The left hand pier has 7 gates with only the 3 left side gates having airbridges. These gates (1-3) are oriented parallel to the pier with double airbridges. This arrangement was used at several major airports (most notably Chicago O'Hare, San Francisco and Miami) but eventually gave way to nose in gates, which were a better use of space. The other 4 gates on the left pier (4-5, 7, 9) have circular gate markings and are accessed from the pier at ground level.
The right pier is angled and has 8 airbridged gates (8,10-17) and one prop gate (6). The markings for the prop gate are modelled after similar markings at Miami. Whereas the left pier has 4 gates capable of handling aircraft up to 707/DC-8 size (one of which can manage a DC-8-61) the right pier's gates are generally smaller with only two capable of handling 707 sized aircraft at any time. The right pier also has an external viewing terrace located on its roof.

The airport can pass for any intermediate sized US airport of the 1960s, when airliners were transitioning to jets but hadn't yet fully converted. It can also pass for similar venues in South America, Asia or Europe.
