The Best Boeing Moulds in 400 Scale Pt 1: B377-737 MAX (October 2021)
See the Best Moulds page for a breakdown of what this page is trying to achieve. In brief below is my view on the best 400 scale moulds for Boeing types based on buying a lot of 400 scale models and looking at them in detail across many years. You may not agree but if you don't you should at least mount a sensible argument about why you don't!
NOTE: Just because a mould isn't the best it doesn't mean it isn't good and that you shouldn't buy it. I buy a wide range of good moulds for many of these types myself. In the end your collecting is up to you. Use the resources linked to below to get a better understanding of what is available.
There is sadly little interest in the most classic Boeings with only Aeroclassics doing anything in this area in recent years. Fortunately they have excellent 720B and 707-320B/C moulds. What is sadly lacking are new and improved 707-100, 138, 320 and 420 moulds to show of the many different early variants of the first Boeing jet range.
Thanks mainly to Aeroclassics 727s continue to get released in 400 scale. All the existing moulds have issues and for the series 200 you could make a case that any of the Aeroclassics, Gemini Jets/JC Wings or Dragon Wings moulds are the best. It is close and all could be improved.
There has been very little interest in the 737-100 so the ancient Seattle Models mould still remains no 1. Aeroclassics easily owns the series 200 space but it is Panda Models series 300 (also used by Aeroclassics) and 400 that have taken the top spots for those versions. The old Gemini series 500 remains perfectly decent, if not spectacular.
B737 Next Generation
For years and years the 737NG has been a sea of mediocrity in 400 scale enlightened only by the first set of Panda 737NGs. These have now been superseded by new Panda 737NG moulds and of course the new collection by NG Models. They easily beat the JC Wings / Gemini and Phoenix moulds, as well as the older moulds now inactive. NG hasn't yet used its 737-600 mould so for that series the Panda remains in top spot.
I am not a big fan of the Aeroclassics or Phoenix MAX moulds, but the Gemini / JC Wings edition is good. As good, if not better, is the Panda mould, although it is unclear whether it is still available for use.
